Lets start 2011 off with a bang!

Posted: January 7, 2011 @ 8:35 PM, by Adam.

The end of last year ended quite interestingly. I'm not going to even bother getting into it since I could literally write a novel based on all of the events leading up to what happened, but lets just say it was both good and bad. The start of the New Year was fantastic - filling up ye ol' memory with joyous events and a good time by all, except Juicy Fruit, who just sucks at life. It's okay, none of us really like him, except HorrorShow, but that's beside the point. I'm sure a future tale will ensue based on the events of that evening, by why spoil the surprise?

On January 1st, my PC dies. In a desperate attempt to try and recover everything on my PC (500 GB worth of data that needed to be backed up), I went through the normal troubleshooting steps - removed RAM sticks 1 by 1 to eliminate that option, did a repair install of the operating system, attempted to reinstall the OS over itself (so I wouldn't lose files), but a blue screen of death appeared during the installation. The next thing I did was swapped the SATA port the hard drive was in... AH HA! 2 out of the 4 ports are bad. I call up HP to see if they'll set me up with a new board, but I was 39 days out of warranty at this point (this took me nearly a week to do since I don't like working on computers when I'm not at work). What was I told? It'd cost me $299.99 to replace the board. I asked the non-American if he could cut me some slack and that I was barely out of my warranty, clearly due to a manufacturers defect, and insisted that I'm not paying 3/4 of the price of the computer just to take a chance this would happen again. He insisted there was nothing he could do, so I asked to speak to his manager. Of course, I could barely understand this person due to a heavy accent, but regardless, he gave me the same speech on how he can't make an exception.

Moral of the story: Don't fucking buy a computer branded HP. Stick to Dell. They've sent out replacement parts for free after warranties expired (well, within reason of course), so fuck HP and them trying to charge nearly the same price for a replacement part as it would cost to buy a new computer.

Anyway, I decided to backup my files to do a fresh install of the OS, but I just couldn't back everything up. Fortunately for me, I only lost movies. I got the important things off, so that brings me to today. I finally finished moving everything over last night, though I wasn't home until late so I didn't do anything when I got home, and I just finished doing some basic tweaks.

Last weekend I had an audition with a pretty major band. Well, it was more like a "alright, we've selected a small group of you to audition, so lets hear what you got" sort of thing. On my way home, I received a call stating that it was down to me and one other person, so they wanted to do another audition. Before taking more time away from the both of us, I asked what the job truly entailed. It came down to being a monkey and playing only what they wanted to play and had written out for their upcoming album, and that any creative idea's "might be taken into consideration". Also, the pay wasn't much more than I'm making now, except no benefits and whatnot. It basically summed up to being just a small hired hand and selling yourself short for what you truly want. I decided to decline the 2nd audition and told the person who called that maybe one day I'll see them again. I wasn't upset or rude, surprisingly, but I have other somewhat news to present.

I've recently run into someone who has the same music ambitions as I do. Sort of. I'm not quite sure what my ambitions are at the moment since there's just too much to consider and all of that, however, I'm going to take it one step at a time to see what happens. Anyway, we were suppose to get together this afternoon to basically audition each other (though we've talked a few times, heard each others materials, and are on the exact same level as far as musicianship and friendship goes), so it's basically a done deal (unless one of us really fucks something up). I had to postpone due to the "snow" that we're suppose to be getting (at the time of writing this, I still haven't seen any), and I had to run to the store to pick up stuff for the cats so they don't starve or decide to find someplace else to poop.

Now that the computer is back up and running, I can now plan my workouts again (since my copies of P90X is on my computer, which runs through my XBOX to my TV), I'll be starting that up tomorrow. I'd use my regular DVD's, except some fucking retarded pile of douche-baggery borrowed them and decided to be even more of a douche bag and won't return them. I swear, you can't just be friends with a girl, letting her know that you just want to be friends, and them getting all pissy because you won't date them/fuck them, and you actually enjoy hanging out with them and don't want to cause stupid shit...it all ends the same.

The last thing I want to mention is hopefully soon, a new feature to this site is going to pop up. A PodCast. Well, sort of. Anyway, my buddy "Cue" and I are going to be starting "Q & A with Cue and A". If you ever hear Cue and I talk, you'd most likely laugh your ass off, think we're retarded, completely hate us, or all 3. We came up with this idea about a month or 2 back, since we are working on comedy skits and routines, but realized we're much better at the thought process and coming up with idea's and random things than we are at planning them out. We're also going to include special guests to this "PodCast" or "WebShow", so we're hoping it goes well.

Alright, I lied, there's one more thing I want to discuss before I end this blog entry, and that's the status of my Sega Genesis game. I'm not sure if I released the title in a previous blog (this is why I'm a horrible liar, because I don't remember what I have and haven't said), but it is "Hangman SG". Yes, I programmed Hangman for the Sega Genesis. The final BETA went out to the 3 people testing it the week of Christmas, and they've been playing the ever living shit out of it. Ace had stopped by one night, and I asked him if he'd like to check it out, and it took me about 30 minutes to get him off of my computer. So far, it's been nothing but positive reviews, which makes me happy. People are showing more and more interest in it, so I'm hoping to sell at least 35 copies (I know, such a big goal), but lets face it - it's a game, developed for a console that is 15+ years out of date, that only hardcore collectors and gamers have. Homebrew, unless it's a very large project such as Pier Solar, doesn't have a high demand. I've also found a few things I need to learn before tackling my next project, so hopefully I can get my hands on an Everdrive to test the software out on the actual Genesis before shooting a copy over to the testers.

Okay, I'm done. And no, this isn't going to RSS tonight. I might do that tomorrow, or I might do it never. I really need to finish AirBlogger.
